Congrats Coach!

The Ruckus Test Team would like to offer a hearty congratulations to our own Brian “Coach” Kesselman for taking the overall win in the 3/4s at the Gorge Roubaix this past weekend!!!
Ruckus correspondent Dan G has Brian quoted as saying this was “Redemption for last year”.
The management at the Ruckus Test Team would also like to put all other Cat 3 riders on notice that Brian is hungry to inflict pain and shred lesser fools (our words, not his). Look for a full race report from the Coach himself in the next week.

6 weeks and 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo

We landed in Phoenix Wednesday night, giving us a couple days to acclimate and get ready for the race on Saturday. How did we get here? At one of the largest 24 hour races in the country with only six weeks of training? Are we fucked? Are we ok? Why is it so warm?

The first weekend of January I had IMed Shawn asking if he would consider doing the race as a two person team after Cristina and Erin had to back out. We were already planning on going as support and looking forward to perhaps not riding as much and when we did ride – long leisurely rolls with hot dog and milkshake stops. Not preparing for a long ass race. How does one prepare for something like this anyway? (more…)

Bike jock stuff

While we enjoy being bike jocks on the bikes, some of us unapologetically enjoy it off the bike as well. This means watching professional races, discussing professional races, reading about professionals etc. At the tail of end of the cyclocross season the chatter about the newly crowned 20 year old world champion, why Nys has slowed, Is Meeusen on Drugs, Why does Wout have such bad luck (amongst other topics) is tapering. What we’re left with is this pretty amazing picture (sourced from the excellent california streaming blog):

NWSSCX Equal Opportunity. Unequal Payout.

Ben is hosting a race on November 15th in Corvallis. Along with the traditional categories there is an elevated Women’s Single Speed event which will be part of a (hopefully) larger series for single-speeders.

Everyone knows SS ladies have more fun. (If ya didn’t, now ya do.)

And girl oh girl do we have a race to prove it. We’ve built a special course with interesting twists and turns, a few kegs of great beer, great people, and – dun dun dun – Huge payouts for the Women’s single speed field! Gals bring your guys, but there’s no payout for guys except a super fun course and gag prizes.

Ruckus Composites is excited to announce the first annual NWSSCX race featuring a women’s single-speed category during the Corvallis Cross Classic on November 15, 2014. We have reworked the schedule a bit to have the women’s SS field race at 3:30 during the open SS field.

It’s going to be super fun!

Return to Capitol Forest 50/100

It was just over a year ago that I did my first 100 mile mountain bike race- the Capitol Forest 50/100 (part of the NW Epic Series). It wasn’t quite done at the spur of the moment but pretty close. Loren had registered but unfortunately couldn’t participate so he sold me his entry about six weeks prior to the event. I did what I could to prepare with most of my mind-space going towards figuring out what I was going to eat. A week before the race David and I went on a ride to shake things out and it went poorly: equipment was wrong, food was wrong, I wasn’t in the shape I had hoped. I panicked and considered dropping out. (more…)
